Technical Application Notes
Situation:
An aluminum recycling company needs to monitor their conveyors for the first sign of trouble. The indicator for this is when the conveyor slows due to unwanted load increase. The conveyors run at 1200 RPM and the supervisor wants to know when the speed has dropped to 1000 RPM.
Solution 1:
Mount a Magnetic Disk on the conveyor load shaft and align a ZS09P Zero Speed Switch Sensor with a fixed trip point of 1000 RPM. When speed drops to 1000 RPM, the ZS09P responds in a fraction of a second enabling the "stop" circuit.
Solution 2:
Mount a Magnetic Disk on the conveyor load shaft and align a Digital Output Hall Effect Sensor to the disk. Wire the Digital Output Hall Effect Sensor to a PE-3 or PE-5 Tachometer. These Tachometers monitor speed in three different ways. First, the Tachometer has a digital display for visual speed indication. Second, a relay output controlled via speed setpoint can enable the conveyor motor "stop" circuit and also enable an alarm becon. Third, a 4-20mA feedback signal for remote real-time speed monitoring.
Early detection improves production by stopping a problem before it stops you.
