| Technical Application Notes: Conveyors in a Construction Material Recycling Plant Situation: A construction material recycling company has a series of 30 conveyors that feed one another in a multi stage process. If one conveyor stops abruptly, the conveyor feeding it continues, and material piles up rapidly as it has nowhere to go. One by one the conveyors stop abruptly creating a domino effect all the way up the line. Down time is extensive, lengthy, and expensive because multiple conveyors need to be cleared before production can continue. Solution: Mount a Magnetic Disk and a ZS09R Zero Speed Switch to the load side of each conveyor. Wire the ZS09R contacts in series with the PLC "Stop" circuits. When a stoppage occurs on one conveyor, the ZS09R Zero Speed Switch trips within 1 second, enabling the PLC "Stop" circuit on all conveyors. Down time and clean up are reduced by confining the problem to a single conveyor. © 2008 Phares Electronics, LLC
